Lab #3 Computer Hardware

learning Objectives:

Today it was our job to locate and identify the list of parts on the Lab handout.

Equipment list:

Dell computer, Identify 1.CPU2.RAM3.Motherboard4.Video processing card or chipset5. Nonvolatile storage(Hard Disk Drive)6.Network interface7.Powersupply8. I/O ports

Notes, Observations and Questions:

This lab was a great refresher on what goes on in the computer.

Question: How many and what type of I/O Ports does the computer you examined have?

This particular computer had 12 different ports. 6 usb ports, 1 ethernet, 1 printer,1 monitor, 1 audio, 1 audio/microphone.

Question: what is the purpose of the CPU, the HDD and the RAM memory?

CPU processes the data and stores it to the HDD. the RAM Memory is the Temporary Memory, that means when the power is turned off it loses the memory where the HDD stores it permanently.

Project2 – Historic computers

the first computer i looked up was the AppleII.

Conclusions:

Always enjoy taking the top off of the computer case to look at the hardware.
